NAGINATA
Originating in the Heian period, the Naginata was a polearm beloved by samurai and warrior monks alike. It became particularly prominent as a symbol of female empowerment within the samurai class, as women were trained to use this weapon to protect their households in times of war. The Naginata’s effectiveness in battle, especially against cavalry, made it a pivotal tool in many historical conflicts.
YARI
The Yari, or Japanese spear, has been a staple in the arsenals of Japanese warriors since the Nara period. Its use peaked during the Sengoku period, where it was favored for its versatility and effectiveness in the phalanx-like formations that dominated the period’s warfare. Legendary warlords like Oda Nobunaga capitalized on the Yari’s capabilities to revolutionize infantry tactics, giving it a formidable reputation on the battlefield.
