Nutrition classes 2 210x145Traditional Chinese Medicine and Nutrition

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) looks at food differently than Western culture. In Western culture food is analyzed by how much protein, fat, fiber, carbohydrates, and vitamins it contains. When looking at food according to TCM, we look at the way each food affects our body’s circulation (Qi and Blood).

If we have problems with stagnation then we need foods that push through stagnation. If we have problems of our energy being too scattered and chaotic, we need foods that calm and slow down the flow. TCM analyzes the body to find out what is going on with our energy flow (circulation) and that information dictates what foods would improve the situation.

Diet affects our health more so than almost any other factor in our lifestyle. By studying nutrition from the TCM point of view we can improve our health dramatically.

Rochester location qigong 210x145Qigong classes:

Qigong classes at our Rochester location are on Wednesday nigths and Thursdays and are all beginner-friendly. The Wednesday night Qigong programs are at 6-7 pm and are offered in 8-week quarters starting September, November, February, and April. Each quarter a new course is offered and no prior experience is needed.

The Thursday program is a half-hour Qigong program at 2:30-3 pm offered in 10-week trimesters (different material than that offered on Wednesday nights) starting in September, December and March. These classes are also simulcasted online using Zoom and can be watched from home or viewed as recordings for registered students using Google Drive.

Students can start with any of the courses offered and proceed from that point forward.

Private lessons in Qigong are also offered by appointment ($95/hour session).

Tai chi long form in person 230x230Yang Style Long Form Tai Chi

If you have previous Tai Chi experience, this would be a great class for you! In-depth work on breathing and using the legs is a center point of this course. Our Tai Chi Yang Style Long Form is taught as a series of independent modules so that new students can join our class at regular intervals. Tai Chi applications will also be practiced. Class is held in-person only and students will have access to previously recorded classes for practicing at home for a year.

The first five pieces of Primordial Qigong will also be practiced at the beginning of each class to improve health, increase awareness of energy flow, and create peace of mind. The modules will run in consecutive order, progressing through the entire Long Form over a two year period. During each module, we will be reviewing only what is covered in that particular module and not in previous modules. New students can join the Long Form class at the beginning of any module.

Students will have access to previous recordings of each class for a year to allow at-home practice.

Modules of 10 weeks, one hour per week, $150. (Taught by Lisa B. O’Shea) New students may join at the beginning of each module.
