MIZONG QUAN – IMPETUOUS WIND DOUBLE SABER 03

A good double saber set with a whiff of the indeterminancy of the style. Applications are shown against another double saber weilder and this is a useful view on the usage of the weapon. As always, footwork is primary to the degree that the feet are montiored through every step of the form. Overall the sabers are well coordinated with little attention paid to decoration and most to the general skills of the weapon. We would have liked to see a more directed application of the striking and following relationship of the two hands.

The flavor of Mi Zong is “indeterminate” with many changes, turns and reversals in this essentially Long Fist Northern Style. Rare in the West but very famous indeed in China.  The style was most popularly associated with Huo Yuan Chia the inspiration of TWO famous Kung Fu films: Bruce Lee’s Chinese Connection and Jet Li’s Fists of Legend. Master Huo was said to be fabulously strong and was picked to head the world-famous Ching Wu Association of ShangHai.
