Mackenzie Dern’s father, Wellington “Megaton” Dias, is a highly accomplished jiu jitsu practitioner who is also well known for his skill in judo takedowns. The drop seoi nage is a staple judo takedown that adapts well into jiu jitsu competition but requires a lot of practice and repetition to master.

Mackenzie Dern Koala Guard and Favorites 7 – Kimura Counter to the Over Under Pass
Mackenzie teaches one of her signature submissions to defend against opponents much larger than her. Being smaller than most of her opponents, she often found herself defending the over under pass. This kimura transition is a great way to counter your opponent’s attempt to pass with the over under grips.

Mackenzie teaches some concepts that will help you retain your guard and transition to other guards to counter the smash pass. We learn how to use our grips and always stay on our side while also using hooks or distance to ensure that your opponent will not pass your koala guard.

It is possible that your opponent may try to counter your sit up guard by moving to the negative half guard. Instead of allowing the position to settle, Mackenzie teaches to push your opponent away from your neck and hips and transition into a spinning waiter sweep to end on top and ready to pass with a leg drag.
